Ps 68:4 (to :), 7-11, 19, 32

Sing unto God, sing praises to his name:

O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness;

The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.

Thy congregation hath dwelt therein: thou, O God, hast prepared of thy goodness for the poor.

The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord;

Prov 3:5,9

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

Section I

( 1) Prov 8:1, 6 (to 2nd ;), 11 wisdom, 18

Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things;

wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

( 2) II King 18:1 Hezekiah, 3, 6, 7 (to :)

Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.

For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses. And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth:

( 3) II Chron 32:27 (to :), 29,32

And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour:

Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

( 4) I Tim 6:6 godliness, 17,18

godliness with contentment is great gain.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

( 5) Rom 11:33 (to 1st !), 36 (to 1st .)

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever.

( 1) 468:16-22

Question. What is substance?

Answer. Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay. Truth, Life, and Love are substance, as the Scriptures use this word in Hebrews: "The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance.

( 2) 275:14

All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.

( 3) 301:17-23

As God is substance and man is the divine image and likeness, man should wish for, and in reality has, only the substance of good, the substance of Spirit, not matter. The belief that man has any other substance, or mind, is not spiritual and breaks the First Commandment, Thou shalt have one God, one Mind.

( 4) 239:5,16-18,20

Take away wealth, fame, and social organizations, which weigh not one jot in the balance of God, and we get clearer views of Principle. Break up cliques, level wealth with honesty, let worth be judged according to wisdom, and we get better views of humanity.

To ascertain our progress, we must learn where our affections are placed and whom we acknowledge and obey as God.

The objects we pursue and the spirit we manifest reveal our standpoint, and show what we are winning.

( 5) 70:2-5

The testimony of the corporeal senses cannot inform us what is real and what is delusive, but the revelations of Christian Science unlock the treasures of Truth.

Section II

( 6) II Chron 24:1 (to 1st .), 2,4,8,10-13

Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem.

And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the Lord.

And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the Lord.

And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end. Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance. And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the Lord, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the Lord, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the Lord. So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.

( 7) Ps 62:10 if

if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

( 8) Prov 4:7

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

( 9) Prov 8:19-21

My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

( 6) 547:23-25

The Scriptures are very sacred. Our aim must be to have them understood spiritually, for only by this understanding can truth be gained.

( 7) 548:2

Christian Science separates error from truth, and breathes through the sacred pages the spiritual sense of life, substance, and intelligence. In this Science, we discover man in the image and likeness of God. We see that man has never lost his spiritual estate and his eternal harmony.

( 8) 265:3-5

Man understands spiritual existence in proportion as his treasures of Truth and Love are enlarged.

( 9) 79:31-32

Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us.

(10) 349:31

In Christian Science, substance is understood to be Spirit, while the opponents of Christian Science believe substance to be matter. They think of matter as something and almost the only thing, and of the things which pertain to Spirit as next to nothing, or as very far removed from daily experience. Christian Science takes exactly the opposite view.

(11) 278:4-5,8

Spirit is the only substance and consciousness recognized by divine Science.

It is a false supposition, the notion that there is real substance-matter, the opposite of Spirit. Spirit, God, is infinite, all. Spirit can have no opposite.

Section III

(10) Matt 4:23

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

(11) Matt 5:1-3,6

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

(12) Matt 6:19-21

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

(13) Prov 12:27 the substance

the substance of a diligent man is precious.

(12) 369:5

In proportion as matter loses to human sense all entity as man, in that proportion does man become its master. He enters into a diviner sense of the facts, and comprehends the theology of Jesus as demonstrated in healing the sick, raising the dead, and walking over the wave. All these deeds manifested Jesus' control over the belief that matter is substance, that it can be the arbiter of life or the constructor of any form of existence.

(13) 312:1

How true it is that whatever is learned through material sense must be lost because such so-called knowledge is reversed by the spiritual facts of being in Science. That which material sense calls intangible, is found to be substance. What to material sense seems substance, becomes nothingness, as the sense-dream vanishes and reality appears.

(14) 278:12,32-3

That matter is substantial or has life and sensation, is one of the false beliefs of mortals, and exists only in a supposititious mortal consciousness. Hence, as we approach Spirit and Truth, we lose the consciousness of matter. The admission that there can be material substance requires another admission, namely, that Spirit is not infinite and that matter is self-creative, self-existent, and eternal. From this it would follow that there are two eternal causes, warring forever with each other; and yet we say that Spirit is supreme and all-presence.

Which ought to be substance to us, the erring, changing, and dying, the mutable and mortal, or the unerring, immutable, and immortal?

(15) 262:9,24

We cannot fathom the nature and quality of God's creation by diving into the shallows of mortal belief. We must reverse our feeble flutterings our efforts to find life and truth in matter and rise above the testimony of the material senses, above the mortal to the immortal idea of God. These clearer, higher views inspire the God-like man to reach the absolute centre and circumference of his being.

Starting from a higher standpoint, one rises spontaneously, even as light emits light without effort; for "where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Section IV

(14) Phil 4:19 God

God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

(15) Matt 11:1

And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

(16) Matt 13:2,33 (to ;), 44-46 the

And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

Another parable spake he unto them;

the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

(17) Heb 10:34 ye have

ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

(16) 590:1

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. The reign of harmony in divine Science; the realm of unerring, eternal, and omnipotent Mind; the atmosphere of Spirit, where Soul is supreme.

(17) 560:10-15

Heaven represents harmony, and divine Science interprets the Principle of heavenly harmony. The great miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and the grand necessity of existence is to gain the true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of heaven in man.

(18) 258:13-15,21

God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.

The human capacities are enlarged and perfected in proportion as humanity gains the true conception of man and God.

(19) 259:1-6

Man is not absorbed in Deity, and man cannot lose his individuality, for he reflects eternal Life; nor is he an isolated, solitary idea, for he represents infinite Mind, the sum of all substance.

In divine Science, man is the true image of God.

(20) 302:14-19

Continuing our definition of man, let us remember that harmonious and immortal man has existed forever, and is always beyond and above the mortal illusion of any life, substance, and intelligence as existent in matter. This statement is based on fact, not fable.

(21) 335:13

Things spiritual and eternal are substantial. Things material and temporal are insubstantial.

Section V

(18) Heb 11:1,2

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.

(19) Act 13:52

And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

(20) Act 14:8-10

And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

(22) 279:3

A New Testament writer plainly describes faith, a quality of mind, as "the substance of things hoped for."

(23) 1:1-5

The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love. Regardless of what another may say or think on this subject, I speak from experience.

(24) 162:4-5,16

Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates and purifies.

Working out the rules of Science in practice, the author has restored health in cases of both acute and chronic disease in their severest forms. Secretions have been changed, the structure has been renewed, shortened limbs have been elongated, ankylosed joints have been made supple, and carious bones have been restored to healthy conditions. I have restored what is called the lost substance of lungs, and healthy organizations have been established where disease was organic. Christian Science heals organic disease as surely as it heals what is called functional, for it requires only a fuller understanding of the divine Principle of Christian Science to demonstrate the higher rule.

(25) 285:27

As mortals reach, through knowledge of Christian Science, a higher sense, they will seek to learn, not from matter, but from the divine Principle, God, how to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, as the healing and saving power.

(26) 418:5

Stick to the truth of being in contradistinction to the error that life, substance, or intelligence can be in matter. Plead with an honest conviction of truth and a clear perception of the unchanging, unerring, and certain effect of divine Science. Then, if your fidelity is half equal to the truth of your plea, you will heal the sick.

(27) 368:14

When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error.

Section VI

(21) I Cor 12:4

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

(22) Eph 5:9 the

the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

(23) Eph 3:14-21

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

(28) 292:4 Divine

Divine Science alone can compass the heights and depths of being and reveal the infinite.

(29) 43:27

The divine must overcome the human at every point. The Science Jesus taught and lived must triumph over all material beliefs about life, substance, and intelligence, and the multitudinous errors growing from such beliefs.

(30) 451:14

Man walks in the direction towards which he looks, and where his treasure is, there will his heart be also. If our hopes and affections are spiritual, they come from above, not from beneath, and they bear as of old the fruits of the Spirit.

(31) 124:25-26 (to 1st .)

Spirit is the life, substance, and continuity of all things.
