I Cor 12:4,6-9,11

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Gal 5:22 the, 23,25

the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Section I

( 1) Ps 143:10

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

( 2) Ps 104:24,30

O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

( 3) Ps 40:5

Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

( 4) Ps 68:17 (to :), 19, 34 (to :)

The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels:

Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

Ascribe ye strength unto God:

( 5) Ps 21:13

Be thou exalted, Lord, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

( 1) 344:32-3

In the Bible the word Spirit is so commonly applied to Deity, that Spirit and God are often regarded as synonymous terms; and it is thus they are uniformly used and understood in Christian Science.

( 2) 78:28

Spirit blesses man, but man cannot "tell whence it cometh." By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science.

( 3) 518:27-2

The divine Principle, or Spirit, comprehends and expresses all, and all must therefore be as perfect as the divine Principle is perfect. Nothing is new to Spirit. Nothing can be novel to eternal Mind, the author of all things, who from all eternity knoweth His own ideas.

( 4) 513:17

Spirit diversifies, classifies, and individualizes all thoughts, which are as eternal as the Mind conceiving them; but the intelligence, existence, and continuity of all individuality remain in God, who is the divinely creative Principle thereof.

( 5) 512:8-9

Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power, and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love.

Section II

( 6) Ps 139:1,7-10,17,18

O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

( 7) Gen 28:10-13, 15,16

And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.

( 6) 331:11 (only), 22

V. The Scriptures imply that God is All-in-all.

He fills all space, and it is impossible to conceive of such omnipresence and individuality except as infinite Spirit or Mind. Hence all is Spirit and spiritual.

( 7) 284:13-23 Can the, 28-29, 31-32

Can the infinite dwell in the finite or know aught unlike the infinite? Can Deity be known through the material senses? Can the material senses, which receive no direct evidence of Spirit, give correct testimony as to spiritual life, truth, and love?

The answer to all these questions must forever be in the negative.

The physical senses can obtain no proof of God. They can neither see Spirit through the eye nor hear it through the ear, nor can they feel, taste, or smell Spirit.

According to Christian Science, the only real senses of man are spiritual, emanating from divine Mind.

The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man.

( 8) 581:4

ANGELS. God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect; the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality.

( 9) 259:26

Immortal ideas, pure, perfect, and enduring, are transmitted by the divine Mind through divine Science, which corrects error with truth and demands spiritual thoughts, divine concepts, to the end that they may produce harmonious results.

(10) 471:13-19

The facts of divine Science should be admitted, although the evidence as to these facts is not supported by evil, by matter, or by material sense, because the evidence that God and man coexist is fully sustained by spiritual sense. Man is, and forever has been, God's reflection. God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence.

Section III

( 8) John 6:63 (to :)

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:

( 9) Ps 147:5

Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

(10) Ps 103:20

Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

(11) Is 35:3,4 (to :)

Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not:

(12) Is 40:28-31

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(11) 249:6-9

Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor material power as able to destroy. Let us rejoice that we are subject to the divine "powers that be."

(12) 109:32-3

The three great verities of Spirit, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, Spirit possessing all power, filling all space, constituting all Science, contradict forever the belief that matter can be actual.

(13) 193:32-2

It has been demonstrated to me that Life is God and that the might of omnipotent Spirit shares not its strength with matter or with human will.

(14) 217:29

You say, "Toil fatigues me." But what is this me? Is it muscle or mind? Which is tired and so speaks? Without mind, could the muscles be tired? Do the muscles talk, or do you talk for them? Matter is nonintelligent. Mortal mind does the false talking, and that which affirms weariness, made that weariness.

(15) 384:6-12

God never punishes man for doing right, for honest labor, or for deeds of kindness, though they expose him to fatigue, cold, heat, contagion. If man seems to incur the penalty through matter, this is but a belief of mortal mind, not an enactment of wisdom, and man has only to enter his protest against this belief in order to annul it.

(16) 385:1-11, 15-18

It is proverbial that Florence Nightingale and other philanthropists engaged in humane labors have been able to undergo without sinking fatigues and exposures which ordinary people could not endure. The explanation lies in the support which they derived from the divine law, rising above the human. The spiritual demand, quelling the material, supplies energy and endurance surpassing all other aids, and forestalls the penalty which our beliefs would attach to our best deeds.

Constant toil, deprivations, exposures, and all untoward conditions, if without sin, can be experienced without suffering. Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself.

(17) 454:19-21

Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action.

Section IV

(13) Ps 62:11,12 (to :)

God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God. Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy:

(14) Luke 4:14

And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

(15) John 5:2-9, 14,15

Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

(16) Gal 5:16 Walk

Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

(18) 316:7

Christ, Truth, was demonstrated through Jesus to prove the power of Spirit over the flesh, to show that Truth is made manifest by its effects upon the human mind and body, healing sickness and destroying sin.

(19) 167:17-26

To have one God and avail yourself of the power of Spirit, you must love God supremely.

The "flesh lusteth against the Spirit." The flesh and Spirit can no more unite in action, than good can coincide with evil. It is not wise to take a halting and half-way position or to expect to work equally with Spirit and matter, Truth and error. There is but one way namely, God and His idea which leads to spiritual being.

(20) 288:9 (only)

Superstition and understanding can never combine.

(21) 298:30-1

Human conjecture confers upon angels its own forms of thought, marked with superstitious outlines, making them human creatures with suggestive feathers; but this is only fancy.

(22) 149:28-31

Whatever guides thought spiritually benefits mind and body. We need to understand the affirmations of divine Science, dismiss superstition, and demonstrate truth according to Christ.

(23) 428:8-12, 19

To divest thought of false trusts and material evidences in order that the spiritual facts of being may appear, this is the great attainment by means of which we shall sweep away the false and give place to the true.

We must realize the ability of mental might to offset human misconceptions and to replace them with the life which is spiritual, not material.

(24) 393:10 Take

Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man.

Section V

(17) II Tim 1:7 God

God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

(18) Ps 91:11

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

(19) Act 12:1 Herod, 3 (to 1st .), 5-8, 10,11

Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also.

Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

(20) II Cor 3:17 where

where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

(25) 227:21

Christian Science raises the standard of liberty and cries: "Follow me! Escape from the bondage of sickness, sin, and death!" Jesus marked out the way. Citizens of the world, accept the "glorious liberty of the children of God," and be free! This is your divine right. The illusion of material sense, not divine law, has bound you, entangled your free limbs, crippled your capacities, enfeebled your body, and defaced the tablet of your being.

(26) 410:14,29-30

Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love. The Apostle John says: "There is no fear in Love, but perfect Love casteth out fear. . . . He that feareth is not made perfect in Love." Here is a definite and inspired proclamation of Christian Science.

Christian scientific practice begins with Christ's keynote of harmony, "Be not afraid!"

(27) 207:10-13

Evil is not supreme; good is not helpless; nor are the so-called laws of matter primary, and the law of Spirit secondary.

(28) 574:27-30

The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares.

(29) 481:2-5

Man is tributary to God, Spirit, and to nothing else. God's being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss. "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

Section VI

(21) Heb 13:1,2

Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

(22) Gal 5:22 the, 23,25

the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

(30) 451:16

If our hopes and affections are spiritual, they come from above, not from beneath, and they bear as of old the fruits of the Spirit.

(31) 280:4-6

From Love and from the light and harmony which are the abode of Spirit, only reflections of good can come.

(32) 96:4-5

Love will finally mark the hour of harmony, and spiritualization will follow, for Love is Spirit.
